About Us

At Chivalry, we believe technology support should be built on more than just know-how—it should rest on honour, honesty, and genuine care for our clients. Based in Kelston, Auckland, we’ve spent over 30 years helping West Auckland homeowners and businesses with trusted IT solutions and reliable support. But our name is more than a brand—it’s a standard we live by every day.

Why “Chivalry”? A Name With Meaning

My name is Mark White, and I’m proud to be the Managing Director of Chivalry. People often ask why we chose the name Chivalry, and it’s a question that means a lot to me.

When I started out, our business was called VoIP IT and Western Computers. While those names fit the technical side—covering voice, internet, and IT—they always felt a little cold and hard to remember. Clients struggled with pronunciation, and the connection just wasn’t there.

But “Chivalry” is about something more. I’ve always admired the Knights of old—their code of honour, their courage, and their commitment to helping others. For me, the idea of chivalry is a reminder to always push myself to be better; not just a better business owner, but a better husband, friend, and leader. I have a sword and a shield in my office—gifts from my wife—serving as daily symbols of what I’m aiming for: to be the best I can be, to step up when it’s needed.

The Story Behind the Name

The name really took shape after a simple but telling moment. After finishing a complete internet and Wi-Fi install at a client’s home, my wife and I were invited to celebrate with the rest of the trades team. Car parks were full, so she parked on the grass—and after the event, our car became stuck. Despite all our efforts and asking for help, it was only the host who finally came to our rescue.

In the rush of the moment, when I mentioned that “my wife was driving,” I realised I had not acted with chivalry. That moment stuck with me, and later my wife called me out for being “unchivalrous.” It made me reflect on the kind of business I want Chivalry to be—one that chooses honesty, accountability, and respect, even on the small things.

That night was a turning point. Instead of waiting until I thought I was “good enough,” I realised chivalry is about the daily choice to do better. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about striving to lift others up, serve our clients well, and stand behind our work, every time.

  • How long has Chivalry been providing IT support in Auckland?

Chivalry has been providing IT support to Auckland businesses since 1996–over 30 years of continuous operation. Based in Kelston, West Auckland, the business has supported small and medium businesses through multiple technology generations, from early desktop networking to modern cloud and Wi-Fi infrastructure. That history means fewer surprises and faster problem-solving for clients.

  • Is Chivalry a New Zealand-owned business?

Yes–Chivalry is a New Zealand-owned, family-operated business based in Kelston, Auckland. It has never been part of a franchise, national chain, or overseas group. Every decision is made locally, and clients deal directly with the team on the ground, not a remote helpdesk or outsourced support centre.

  • What types of businesses does Chivalry work with?

Chivalry works primarily with small to medium businesses across West Auckland and greater Auckland. Most clients are owner-operated businesses that need a reliable IT partner without the cost of an in-house IT department – trades, retail, professional services, and hospitality are all common. No job is too small to be worth a conversation.
  • Does Chivalry handle all IT services or just one area?

Chivalry covers the full technology stack for small businesses–CCTV installation, IT security, Wi-Fi and internet, business phone systems, and day-to-day IT support. Having one provider for all of these means one point of contact, one business that knows your full setup, and no gaps between separate vendors when something goes wrong.
